Description

Michael Smith Memorial Park at Bate-Wood Homes, current-day. Smith was the owner, with others, of the Smith-Jackson Funeral Home, which had the honor of burying most Blacks in Danville. When he died, the city considered renaming a street in his honor, but it was decided instead, to name the park and walking trails at Bate-Wood for him.
