Smith Tarrance and Grandchild

Dublin Core

Title

Smith Tarrance and Grandchild

Description

Longtime Clifton resident Smith Yeager Tarrance (1846-1919) with his grandchild. A one time slave, he was one of several African Americans who was attending a party and, rather than being reintroduced into slavery, left the party and walked about 20 miles to Camp Nelson to join the Union Army. The uniform picture has been looked at by an expert and is determined to be authentic.
