Description
Members of Danville High School's Black Student Union, 1971. While most Black students attended the Bate School until its closure in 1964, some transferred to Danville High School beginning in 1955-56. Once DHS was integrated, the need for a Black student union became evident and one was formed in 1971. Shown from left to right, front to rear, are Walter Smith, Cynthia Owsley, Chuck Ford, and Clyde Simpson.
